Researchers use a statistical method to help interpret limited sensor data from fusion experiments and detect anomalies in plasma control systems. Two Belgian companies, PropheSea and Ikologik, saw that the same approach could work anywhere data is scarce but decisions still need to be made. Together they applied it to Ecofrost, a frozen fried potato producer. The result: meaningful savings in water and electricity use, and a working example of how methods built for fusion science can transfer into industry. Preparations for the next #JT60SA experimental campaign are gaining momentum. ⚛️ At the 3rd JT-60SA Experiment Team Workshop at QST Naka, around 50 European and Japanese experts came together to advance the tools, software and experimental preparations needed for the next operational phase. The workshop brought together 20 European participants from EUROfusion laboratories, universities and Fusion for Energy, strengthening the close collaboration between European and Japanese teams. “It is very rewarding to see European and Japanese colleagues working together as one team,” said Yevgen Kazakov, EU Experiment Leader. The next workshop is planned for 5–9 October 2026. Integrated modelling took centre stage at Culham this June ⚛️🖥️ From 15 to 19 June 2026, around 25 members of the EUROfusion TSVV-H team met at the Culham Campus, hosted by @ukaeaofficial, to review progress and advance the European integrated modelling framework. The meeting focused on surrogate model coupling, large-scale validation, pedestal model integration and code benchmarks. New users also received hands-on training on the High-Fidelity Plasma Simulator from experienced developers and expert mentors. Once a fusion reactor starts running, its interior becomes radioactive, ruling out human access for maintenance. Since every component will eventually need replacing, engineers must find ways to carry out that work remotely, from a safe distance. That's harder than it sounds. Some reactor components weigh up to 180 tonnes and have to be manoeuvred through narrow maintenance ports. To work through this, EUROfusion is working with a new robotics testing centre of the University of Southern Denmark. The site will soon include the world's strongest robotic arm, built to develop and test a new approach to handling these components for future fusion power plants.
